Your blank....
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Good news week

The good news this week is that YOU get to choose - for the first time all over again - what YOU want to do with your life.....

Take a blank sheet of paper....

Fill it up with all the things YOU are committed to do right now...  Fill it both sides....  Then rip it up!

Take a blank sheet of paper....

Think about the digital world of opportunities and possibilities out there .....  Put down only what YOU want to do and what YOU think will fulfil YOU and your significant others over the next 20 years....

YOUR blank....  YOUR future....  YOUR life.....

The climate is changing for business
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Good news week

Even a year ago I was "digging in" against all the "climate change" protagonists. I saw them as a motley crew of "conservationists" who were basically against all development and growth. Back then I was convinced the whole "Climate Change debate" had been hijacked by these people and they stood for just about everything you could prefix with "anti" - anti-globalisation, anti-greenhouse gas emissions, anti-development, anti-war, anti-economic growth, etc.

Over the past few months I have re-examined my position. As you know from my recent riffs I now see "the climate is changing for business". If we block out the noise of the protesters and the conservationists who merely want to score political points then there are many valid issues for business to take on that relate directly to Climate Change. So let us forget the political posturing of parties, movements, protesters, voters, single-issue campaigners, etc. and let us move on to the business issues.

Is your business a leader in your industry? Has your business made Climate Change issues your number one priority for the next five years? Are your customers in the vanguard of Climate Change sensitive consumers? Are competitors in your industry ahead of you with their Climate Change initiatives? Could you move into another industry because of your Climate Change innovations? Could you acquire a company that has moved ahead of you with Climate Change measures?

If you tackle Climate Change issues within your business you will have grasped a once in a generation opportunity to leap frog ahead of any likely competition in the next five years.

Volatility
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Good news week

Don't you just love volatility?   Volatility in markets.  Volatility in ideas.  Volatility in relationships.  Volatility in business performance.  Volatility in life's chances.

You don't love volatility do you.....

There is the rub.  Volatility means change.  Volatility in markets means investors are undecided about the risks involved in their decisions about asset values.  So the prices swing widely up and down.  They change by the week, day, or hour.

You might learn to love volatility however if you have a clear and present purpose that empowers you to ignore other people's assessments of risk.  If you have a fixed view about the current and future value of an asset why be concerned about what the market is doing as investors second guess each other.  When the prices go down you buy more of the assets you want to keep.  When the prices go up you rejoice in the knowledge that you hold more of that asset.  When they go down again you buy more and so on.  You learn to love this cycle of volatility because it affords you more and more opportunities to improve your position.

Volatility is about to spread through everyone's life on this planet in a new and unexpected way due to Climate Change.  This volatility will affect assets, ideas, values, businesses, relationships, and life's chances.  This new volatility is something you might like to learn to love.

Green by design
Mood:  special
Topic: Good news week

Green by design is a new approach to doing business. It has you looking beyond your traditional or smokestack business models. It has you looking to provide environmentally friendly products and services. It has you looking to maximise the "use value" of all your intangible assets.

Green by design uses information to emphasise the "use value" you provide your customers rather than emphasis your product or service range. Green by design uses digital information systems to keep your customers fully informed about your carbon-reduced business choices. Green by design uses energy efficient solutions and carbon miserly technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in every phase of your business. Green by design uses automation to reduce rework, waste, duplication, and paper records. Green by design uses machine to machine connections to limit the transportation needs of your business. Green by design compresses the supply chain for every product and every service bought or sold by your business.

Green by design starts with "a carbon neutral" mindset. This mindset is geared to reducing the carbon footprint of your business and all your suppliers to an absolute minimum over the next decade. In some cases the stretch goal is to "leave no footprint" from your business.

Build lovemarks not brands
Mood:  loud
Topic: Good news week

If you can change one thing and one thing only in your current mindset - change this.  You are building a lovemark not a brand.  You are about the experience not the trademark.  You are about how people relate to you, your products, your services, etc not whether they feel loyal to you, your prouduct, your services, etc.

This blog is about building a lovemark with you.   It is about getting you to think for yourself.  It about getting you to position yourself to the best of your ability. It is about getting you to adopt "habits, beliefs, thinking patterns, and ways of being in the world" that will make you a lovemark.

You can think more about your habits over at "new continuities" that is at http://newcontinuities.blogspot.com

You can think more about your business as a "green experience" for yourself and your customers over at "clear space thinking" that is at http://richardlipscombe.space.live.com
